Today is Orphan Sunday!! What better day to jump start Marcia Wilson and Diane Sandberg's trip to Haiti?
They leave early tomorrow morning, and they really really really appreciate your prayers. Bethel Valpo partner New Reality International's VP, Alicia Grant (pictured here on the land, in front of one of the houses) is already there, she arrived a few days ago and has news to share.
Alicia tells us that there will be meetings all week with the GOBSAMAT committee. This is great news, as the more communication that happens during this transitional time, the better! As of today, they have had their first meeting and she reports that it went well! Please pray this week for continued great meetings! If you're not familiar, in recent months Cay Merritt left Tru Du Nord where she had lived for a few years and run the children's home, with her four adopted kids, from the home. They are back home in Australia and it's a wonderful thing, but also a huge transition as the kids finally moved onto the land that had been prepared for them, two of them graduated, they are learning what life is like with new people looking after them, four of their peers are now in Australia, and a few additional additional kids have joined their family! Phew, that's a lot! It's good change, but change can be hard.
Into this environment come Alica, Marcia and Diane, so they are in a unique and timely position to really serve, encourage and wait on God for what part they can play with everything going on. Diane will be the first member of Bethel Valpo, besides myself and Marcia, that the kids and committee will be meeting, after knowing our hearts and prayers have been with them for months! We know she will be a great ambassador!
Also, while Alicia tells us things are going well, the bug bites are really bad at the moment and after a few days she is still struggling with how to deter them. As always please pray for health and safety as everyone travels and for the whole trip.
I may update this blog throughout the week as Marcia, Diane and Alicia send along prayer requests and news, so check back often for that and to hear more about Orphan Sunday and what we are doing locally to serve orphans and widows!
Below are more photos of the kids and the land that Alicia has taken in the last few days.
